Club Monthly Awards Competition Rules

CONTEST RULES  Jan 2015

Indian River Photo Club has “3” Photographic Print Contests at each meeting:


COLOR , MONOCHROME, & SPECIAL TECHNIQUES.


Images not in compliance with contest   guidelines [rules] will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Rules Compliance Committee.


GENERAL RULES FOR ALL “3” CONTEST CATEGORIES


CLASSES: Each category contest has two classes.     

Submissions must all be in the same class either A or B.

a.   CLASS A        Experienced Accomplished

b.   CLASS B        Beginning Intermediate


PHOTOS MUST:

a.  comply with the monthly theme   

b.  be the work of the entering photographer                         

c.  have been taken within the previous 24 months       

d.  be displayed on the table easel by 7:00 PM with entry form

c.  NOT have photographer’s name visible.      

e.  NOT have won an earlier award in a contest /exhibit       


PRINT SIZE & PRESENTATION

MINIMUM PRINT SIZE            8” X  10”
MAXIMUM PRINT  SIZE        16” X  20”         

MUST BE MOUNTED on BACKER BOARD                  

MUST BE MATTED                                 

MAT MUST BE BLACK OR WHITE ONLY         

MAXIMUM MAT SIZE  16” x 20”          

NO FRAMES


GENERAL RULES FOR ALL “3” CONTEST CATEGORIES


MUST SUBMIT:   All who receive a ribbon are REQUIRED to have a digital copy of the awards photo emailed to the Newsletter Editor within  FIVE (5) days of the meeting date.  

Longest side set to be 1040 pixels  at least 5”x 4" at 300 DPI (or PPI)  jpg. Format as an Attachment (not imbedded)

NOTE:   

Images that receive a ribbon in the monthly contests and are submitted for club records by the deadline may be entered  in the Best Photograph of the Year in December.


No photograph may have any writing added to the photo surface/image or embedded in it unless it is an integral part of the photograph. i.e. No copyright insignia or company name or photographer’s name added. Photographs with such enhancements will not be published in the Newsletter or on the Club Web Site

                            


COLOR CONTEST CATEGORY


Must represent the actual image captured.

The photo should be as through your eyes, not editing software.

NO Manipulation or Modification Allowed *


* EXCEPT ALLOWANCE OF “NORMAL” LIMITS OF  Sharpening, Cropping,

Flipping Image, Brightness, Contrast, Stitched Panoramas  

High Dynamic Range Images, Restoration of Original Color to the Scene

                                                                       

Every photo is looked at for authenticity.

If the criteria for color have not been met, the entry will be moved to Special Techniques at the sole discretion of the Rules Compliance Committee and/or the Judges.

                                                                                      

MONOCHROME CONTEST CATEGORY


Same rules as Color Contest Category and:

 A monochrome print is defined as having no more than one color, but may be any single color.  Any adjustments must appear natural.



SPECIAL TECHNIQUES CONTEST CATEGORY


Special Techniques includes out of the ordinary and digitally altered images including techniques to modify images in creative and artistic ways.


INCLUDES: use of editing software filters or plug-ins, alteration of texture,

printed multiple layers, elements added to the image, elements removed from the image, rearranging elements of the image, use of digital filters, providing color substitution, etc., double  exposure,  Infrared, Time lapse.


MUST have original images printed and attached to back of submission.
